Advanced Care Directives
When discussing aged care services, often an important consideration is an advanced care directive, especially in relation to palliative care.
An advanced care directive is a document that describes your future preferences for medical treatment in anticipation of a time when you may become unable to express them – whether that be due to an accident, sudden illness or progressive disease that impacts your decision-making capacity.
Please note: Advanced care directives differ between states and territories. Some state and territory governments have specific forms that you can use. In some states, advanced care directives are legally binding while in others they are not. Please refer to the legislation in your state.
